My name is Joe from Hobbs, NM. I have been smoking for 4 years and am interested in competing, but would like to take it for a test drive before jumping in. Does anyone need a sidekick?

Joe - welcome to the IBCA Forum - we have an event coming up in Hobbs in August

My suggestion to you is to jump in feet first - you will meet a lot of nice people.   You go to an event and cook the best of your ability on that given day, enjoy the comraderie among the cooks and then if you place it is icing on the cake.,

welcome to the forum sir. if you don't want to wait till august and want to stay in state, there is the Pork n Brew in march(end). and there is a event in Albuquerque in june(end). but you need to know that the two contests are two different sanctioning bodies and therefore will have different things considered in judging.
 if you need, i should be cooking both comps. let me know
