W.E. Core - a cook from way back - is in a nursing home in McKinney and isn't doing well -

Chris DeVries is scheduled for treatments soon

DaHorn's brother had surgery and has been in the hospital for 12 days -

Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Lynn, I aprreciate the support from everyone.

I was able to bring him home yesterday and boy was he happy.  We both know that the road ahead of us is long and bumpy but I will be there with him every step of the way.

A little background on this story, my brother was diagnosed with colon cancer 2 weeks ago and rushed into emergency surgery to have a tumor the size of a softball removed from his colon.  While they were in they found that the cancer had made its way into his lymph nodes and they tested positive for cancer as well.  So, he is going to undergo a 6 month stint in chemotherapy (1 treatment a week).  The hospital stay was 15 days due to the fact that he was not recovering the way they expected, there were some questionable decisions that were made by the doc and nurses, but thats in the past and we have put it behind us.  I'm just happy that he is able to relax at home now, so much better than the hospital.

Thanks again to all for the thoughts, prayers, well wishes, and support over the past couple weeks, we really appreciate it.

Well things went from bad to worse and are getting better again, slowly.

Colin is back in the hospital and has been for 2 weeks most of the time has been in the ICU unit in Austin.  He had to be transferred to a different hospital due to the severity of the complications he was facing.  He went back in 2 weeks ago last Saturday due to severe shortness of breath and found that he was experiencing pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in his legs that had broken loose and traveled into his lungs thus blocking the oxygen flow.  They rushed him into the ER when we arived due to the oxygen levels in his blood being down to 72 (they get concerned when it drops to 90 or below.  He got admitted and was in serious pain, more so than I have seen him since the surgery.  It was the clots causing the pain inside his lungs, all they could do is dose him up with painkillers to make him comfortable.  After a few days in ICU they moved him to IMC (intermediate care) this is where the problems started......
With no warning his kidneys started to slow down to the point where they were not functioning at all then 3 big blood clots formed (even with him on blood thinners) and his legs began to swell to 2x their normal size, causing all kinds of trouble and pain.  This is when they decided to transfer him to Seton Main in downtown Austin.  The care at this location is way different than it was at the NW location, more in depth and substansiated.  Colin had to undergo 2 bouts with dialysis but we were lucky enough for his kidneys to come back online to 100% over the past 2-3 days.  The swelling in his legs has also started to go down slowly, but they said it may be 5-6 weeks before he can go home due to the severe swelling and blood clots that are dissolving very very slowly.  So things are looking up, but there seem to be some bad news on the horizon regarding his lymph nodes that showed up in his latest CAT scan, so we are waiting until the swelling goes down more so they can get a good look at what is happening.  I forgot to mention that he is still doing chemotherapy from his hospital bed as well.  Im in awe of his strength and heart for hanging in there during all of this bad news.

Also, I had my colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and they found a tumor about the size of a golfball in my colon, the pathology report came back as benign but will still need to be removed ASAP (last week of September).  Just crazy that 2 brothers are going thru similar things at almost the same time.

I'm just getting back on line after the storm ran me inland. Yeah I was a chicken I went to near Dallas.  Got back today and still lots of folks without power no lights on the streets around the part of town where my hotel is but I'll be at work tomorrow.  And hopefully I'll actually get relocated some day.

DeHorns sad to hear all your and the other's issues with illness and storms of life.  Just want to say I'll be praying for you all!

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.  It's been awhile since I have been able to update this story.  Unfortunatly I lost my little brother on 10/17 after a tough battle with colon cancer he was only 31 years old.  the support I have gotten from my fellow cookers has been uplifting for all of us.  At this point we have decided to take the rest of the year off and concentrate on family.  this has been a rough road and we haven't gotten out of the woods yet.  Hopefully we can get some good news soon, the bad has been a little much.

Again thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support, we truly appreciate it all.

Hey how are you Race?  hector and I were just talking about you on Friday.  He said you were thinking about going to Bastrop, how was it?

Physically I'm doing good, I was off work for about a month but am back at it again.  Busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.  Mentally, I'm pretty drained, as you can imagine.

We will be back at Chilly Chili in 09.  See y'all there!
