Lynn:

I see that Merl published a list of KCBS members by state.  Do you ever do the same?

Thanks,
Dave

I haven't seen that list - is it the members or number of members?

I think the list Dave could be refering to can be found on page 7 of Jan '09's Bullsheet.
I found it rather interesting too. It lists the number of members in each state and the number of contests KCBS sanctions in each state.

Keep in mind, those numbers show ONLY the number of KCBS contests. I know IBCA has contests in NM, GA, LA, AR, CA, OK,  and there are many other sanctioning bodies that do the same.

It's a list of the KCBS members by state, number of certified judges by state, and the number of KCBS contests by state.

Just out of curiosity, do these numbers (TOTALS 9,811 7,370 261) mean that 75% of their members are judges?

Yep.... in order to become a certified judge, master judge, certified table captain, etc. you must take the $30 cbj class. To take the class, and keep your cbj status, you must keep your dues current.
Many cooks are also cbj's,.... but not all cbj's are cooks.

I've been doing IBCA events for three years now and I really enjoy every one of  them. I guess I'll have to do a KCBS competition just to see why they have so many members/judges. Pretty amazing numbers!
