Hey gang,

It's been a while since i've been on the board hope you are all doing great.  I was wondering if anyone has participated in or thought of having a cook off to benefit the homless in our communities.  We have been competing in cookoffs and it always amazes me how much food we cook just to turn in a few slices for judging.  I know our friends and family come and eat our leftovers but think about what we throw away or give to folks walking the grounds of the cookoff.  There has also been many times where we had to cook a whole brisket for the cookoff coordinators to sell.  I just feel we could do so much more with our talents and love of BBQ to help out those who can't help themselves.  I see the great work with our troops at Fort Hood and I am inspired to do something for the homeless in our respective towns.  Please let me know your thoughts and comments because I would really like to get something going in the San Antonio Area.  Take care and God Bless.

what we have done at some of the events - is all of the meat that is left from the judging it is taken to soup kitchens around to feed the homeless.

If you can put something together down there - I'm sure that possible you could get some cooks to participate - but I would think that you would need a little payback.
