I am trying to convince my wife and sister to enter this on.
I have a few questions about the powder puff contest.
1.  I see that men can start the fires, but can they tend them throughout the contest, or once the fire is started then it is up to the women to maintain it?
2.  Why is the anouncement highlighted in yellow?  I noticed that several are highlighted.

I am assuming you are referring to the VFW 4816 Powder Puff, In Porter TX. It is in Yellow because it is a new listing, just to kind of make it stand out for a couple of days.
As far as what can the men do, Help with Fire building only, a lot of the men will hang around to help with the clean up, but then there are those that choose to hang in the bar and stay out of (or in) trouble.
This is a good cook, lots of fun, usually has 15 or so teams. The Post has water and electricity available at most sites.
