Just spoke with Karen Williams of the Acadiana Area Red Cross about the upcoming 3rd Annual Cajun BBQ Cook off - June 12-14 2009; she'd like to invite any and all BBQ cookers to this year's IBCA-sanctioned event, again held at the Cajundome in Lafayette, LA!
There will be 2 contests, the "regular" IBCA contest, where chicken, pork spare ribs, and beef brisket will be judged - cash prizes will be awarded to 10th place, with the top 3 places receiving trophies as well (total cash - $5000); the entry fee for this is $150. There will also be a People's Choice, where the public will vote for the "best tasting" entries in chicken, ribs, and brisket(contestants must cook at least 200 samples). The entry fee for this is $50, and the winner also receives a BBQ grill. There's also a "Somethin' Cajun" cooking competition on Friday night - $15.
You can complete in one or both events.

http://www.ibcabbq.org/flyers2009/lafayette.pdfKaren assured Andy and I that power shouldn't be a problem this year - some of you might recall that last year some cooks were told that the power wouldn't be available until Friday evening, but that has been remedied. And the Cajundome has assured them that BBQ cookers will be allowed to use the nearby restrooms and most likely the closer entrance for turn-in.
It's a little too early to be looking at the weather forecast, but this year, the cookoff is in June instead of July, so it should be a *little* cooler...
