Just spoke with Karen Williams of the Acadiana Area Red Cross about the upcoming 3rd Annual Cajun BBQ Cook off - June 12-14 2009; she'd like to invite any and all BBQ cookers to this year's IBCA-sanctioned event, again held at the Cajundome in Lafayette, LA!

There will be 2 contests, the "regular" IBCA contest, where chicken, pork spare ribs, and beef brisket will be judged - cash prizes will be awarded to 10th place, with the top 3 places receiving trophies as well (total cash - $5000); the entry fee for this is $150. There will also be a People's Choice, where the public will vote for the "best tasting" entries in chicken, ribs, and brisket(contestants must cook at least 200 samples). The entry fee for this is $50, and the winner also receives a BBQ grill. There's also a "Somethin' Cajun" cooking competition on Friday night - $15.

You can complete in one or both events.

For more details on some other events at this cookoff, browse to:

Karen assured Andy and I that power shouldn't be a problem this year - some of you might recall that last year some cooks were told that the power wouldn't be available until Friday evening, but that has been remedied. And the Cajundome has assured them that BBQ cookers will be allowed to use the nearby restrooms and most likely the closer entrance for turn-in.

It's a little too early to be looking at the weather forecast, but this year, the cookoff is in June instead of July, so it should be a *little* cooler...

The long-range forecast is sunny and temps in the 90s!

Well, at least it looks like there's no rain in there to worry about!

Whoo boy was it hot! But then again, I'll take the heat over wading thru puddles or sloshing thru the mud! Congrats to GC Darby Neaves and RGC Dennis May - and to all those who got calls!

Congrats to you and Andy on your calls - also.
