Nomination for Board of Director at Large has been received for Andy Hollerman, IBCA Head Judge, Lafayette, LA. - the following is his bio:

Andy Hollerman

Candidate

IBCA Board of Directors
My name is Andy Hollerman and I am a candidate for the IBCA Board of Directors in 2009.  The objective of my candidacy is to utilize my passion for barbeque to help IBCA grow and prosper in the years that follow.  Barbeque is meant to be fun and inclusive for everyone.   I want to work as a member of the Board of Directors to continue this spirit of inclusiveness in IBCA and barbeque in general.  I also want to continue development of the Louisiana pit, which has had impressive growth over the last few years.

My wife Lynn and I currently live in Lafayette, Louisiana with our youngest daughter Alex, who is a freshman music major at my university.  My wife Lynn is a Computer Software Engineer who works developing online applications at UL Lafayette.  Our oldest daughter Liz teaches 3D computer graphics at Boston University in Washington, DC.

I fondly remember the day in 2003 where I saw footage of a barbeque contest on television.  When the segment concluded, the first words out of my mouth were ?I can do that?!  From that moment on, I was hooked.  Since then, I have participated in more than 106 barbeque contests as a cook, judge, or contest official in locations all across the United States.  Since late 2007, my wife Lynn and I have been Certified Head Judges for IBCA contests in the Louisiana  pit and eastern Texas.  We enjoy meeting new friends and helping contest promoters adjudicate their IBCA contests.  In 2008, my wife and I formed the Glowz barbeque team to compete in IBCA contests.  This name pays homage to the fact that I have made a living as a scientist studying substances that glow in the dark.  In contests, we cook on a Deluxe Big Drum Smoker, a Backwoods Party, and a Large Big Green Egg and are improving with every contest.  In addition, I am a Master Judge, Certified Table Captain, and cook team member for the KCBS.  I am also a Certified Judge for the Memphis Barbeque Network (MBN). Barbeque is a big part of my life.  I would consider it an honor and privilege to represent IBCA on its Board of Directors as we face the future with hope and good cheer.  IBCA is an organization of cookers who love and respect barbeque.  I want to be a part of that future.

My name is Dee Dee Barton and I would like to be your next Executive Director of IBCA.

Having grown up in Austin, I am committed to utilizing my creativity and ardent leadership style to sustain our organization?s reputation of being the best, most helpful sanctioning body for the promoter and the fairest and the best in judging to the cooks.  I have spent many years with IBCA as a promoter, competitor and a head judge, aspiring through my work to give people experiences and friendships they may not have otherwise had.  I want to honor and protect what the founding fathers of IBCA started while being open to suggestions and discussions of making our organization the very best that it can be.

Working with the VFW Post 8787 Ladies Auxiliary for many years and as its president for two, provided the same aspiration, with a new focus: educating our children of patriotism and the histories of past war veterans; something they may not have without the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  It also gave us the opportunity to build one of the largest cookoffs in Texas, Chilly Chili and BBQ Cookoff.  Through volunteerism and community service, the cookoff committee at Post 8787 has supported many local and veteran charities over the past 20 years.  As the Manager of the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of Texas at Austin I?m charged with providing a detailed, attentive, integrated, ethical, honest, pleasant, patient, and committed member of the staff who leads by example.

In my spare time, I hang out with my wonderful husband, Bob, and our eight dogs, three cats, four pygmy/dwarf goats and two miniature paint geldings, on five acres outside of Coupland, TX.  Together we have five grown daughters and six grandchildren.  I?m also learning how to knit, enjoy reading and we are always trying to learn how to barbeque!

My name is Gerald Maynard, I am a candidate for the position of IBCA Executive Director.

I live in Euless, TX. and have been in this area all my life. Toni and I have no children, but we do have 3 Labs that think they are (I guess we kinda of treat them that way). If you have seen us at any of the cook-off's then you all know Brandy, she is the one laying by the fan or inside under the AC (what a Life).
Currently, I am the Manager of Rolls Royce Engine Production at American Airlines in Ft.Worth. Due to the fact that I have had 2 jobs in my adult life, it's safe to say I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. My family was originally from Oklahoma, so a lot of quality time was spent in that part of the country during my younger years.... If you consider hauling hay all summer "Quality Time". The things I learned during those times, were to work hard, be honest, and always do it right the first time. If you could not adapt to these rules then don't mess with it... My dad always made sure of that...there's nothing like tearing down a fence row that you just put up because a couple of poles were not in line with the others.

I have been cooking BBQ in IBCA for nearly 20 years, the first team that I was part of did some cooking and ALOT of "Socializing". Remember the first Stella Award? That was us, so needless to say that was our claim to fame! Then I took the big plunge and started out on my own, along with a buddy of mine that seemed to always show up after camp was set up, and always had somewhere to be right before clean up.... Didn't take long for this old cowboy to figure out that I needed a new cooking partner, well along came Toni and we have been going strong ever since. She now has her own cooking team and does very well, she usually gives me a run for my money, and a lot of the time she is the faster runner. I cook under "Kick'n Back Kookers", and Toni Cooks under "Redneck Woman BBQ".

What I can bring to the position is honesty, hard work, and the desire to make things right the first time. We are very fortunate to have such a strong organization to step into. My admiration goes out to all of the hard working individuals that founded IBCA, and all who have kept it going and GROWING for all of these years. This has not been an easy task, they have always put the organization first. I believe that is still what we need, for IBCA to prosper and continue to grow. I am willing and up for the task to keep things moving in that direction. I believe we should always look to our members for the em-betterment of the organization, without the members then we are nothing. As IBCA embarks in new areas of the states, it is imperative that we listen to what is being said, this is the only way we can continue to grow and be successful. Whether it is your Hobby, Job, or just the way to meet new folks, BBQ is Americas #1 past time, and who else better to spend it with, "FRIENDS".....
