Just bought a house with a brick bbq pit, and am looking to add a firebox to it. Any suggestions as to size, placing, etc. that I should know before I start mixing mortar?
Appreciate any suggestions and insight.
Thanks.

This is something I would do and those who know me, know it's true. This technique is called "Five days of Heaven". Go to the fridge and grab one of your favorite beverages, pop it open and take a big swig. I know it's a little early, but what the heck it's the holidays and you just bought a new house. I would suggest going out side right now and lighting the pit. Forget about the weather. Get up from your chair and go. Don't wait because you are losing precious Q'n time. Don't even finish reading this reply, it will still be here when you get back. Throw on some meat and start to learn the pit. Continue this over the next five(5) days (don't take any breaks)and you will know where all of the hot spots are, if you have sufficient wind flow, if you even need to build a box, etc... Over the next five days, you will have all your answers and more importantly, you will know if you REALLY love BBQ! Shoot, see what you did, now I feel like Q'n. Im gonna go light the pit! Have a safe and Happy New Year!!!
