Saw this floating around on one of the bbq forums.
Don't forget to add a body guard expense into the budget for this one. hurt

Free contest entry for 2009 top 5 teams from KCBS, MIM, IBCA and top teams for CBBQA and AZBBQ.

For KCBS that would be for KCBS 2009 Overall Team of the Year

2. IOWA'S SMOKEY D'S
3. I Smell Smoke
4. MUNCHIN HOGS@THE HILTON
5. Smoke on Wheels

See below. I'm not involved with the contest, only know what I read.

It's in Rosarito Beach, Mexico in Baja California (Mexico), just south of the San Diego/Tijuana border.

Luck and Be Safe/Smart,

Don

As far as the bodyguards-- only if you go to Juarez.. which is a hell of a lot closer to you in Texas.. than to us here in Baja...

All kidding aside - Rosarito has 1 homicide ytd, Tijuana 48.... Philly which is the same size as TJ - 78, New Orleans 288 and Washington DC -218 (both combined = the same population as TJ) --so we are very safe down here...

I just concluded "The Ultimate BBQ Showdown East vs West" it was a great event-- Rosarito will be better, and we have full police escort to and from the border, for those of you who don't feel safe, to the Rosarito Beach Hotel.... Get out of that 3 digit heat in the summer and make a family vacation of it-- 3 nights only $249 (reg price for 1 night) at the Rosarito Beach Hotel.. Hope to see many of you down here..

Just got back from Rosarito-- wow what a day -- 78 degrees, Sunny, 6 ft waves, ate 4 Lobsters and had a few Beers-- all while helping the Boys and Girls Club in Rosarito raise over $60,000 US Dollars.. Part of our proceeds from the Rosarito Q will also be going to this CHarity... Days don't get much better than this.. Hope to see a few of you down here come August.

Just got back from Rosarito... They had a Bi-National (Mexico and USA) mayor's convention-- 12 Mayor's from the USA obviously thought it was safe enough down there to bring their kids and spend not just the day of the event but the entire weekend (till tomorrow) at the Hotel, same for the 6 Mexican Mayor's and Gov. Reps that were there... Made a lot of connections, squared away the border caravan issue for the BBQ, and got the Mayor of Hungtington Beach, Redondo Beach, Glendale, Chula Vista, Ensenada, Mexicali, Tijuana, and offcourse Rosarito all committed to promoting the event in their communities, as well as attending the event in August... The Best part though was getting Tecate Light and Heineken as the title sponsors on Wednesday.. and another 2 major enterprises asking me how they can become involved (meeting next week)...

Hope you guys saw the add in the Bullsheet, Backcover, and really nice respond so far.. Also Gene O. and I are setting up a KCBS Judges Class in San Diego on August 7th.. either 9am-1pm or 10am to 2pm TBD, and location TBA in the next few days.

I'll be back on the TEAM recruitment circuit in Bakersfield on MAy 22nd-- right now just want to keep everyone updated-- this could easily turn out to be the most "popular" (attendance wise) event in the circuit as Cities, Chambers of Commerce and non-profits orgs on both sides of the border are ordering and buying tickets to this event by the 100's.. I've printed 15,000 already (5,000 at a time) and have distributed or sold 10,450 already... Rosarito with 2500 rooms is going to sell out.. Tijuana with 8,500 and Ensenada with 3,800 rooms are likely to offer shuttle services to and from the event... As well as Mexicoach (bus services from a couple of pre-set locations in the USA) to the event and back (daily service starting Thursday 8/26). Logistically speaking we are well ahead of the game on this one...

Remember June 1st is the cut-off date for the "early bird".. More importantly unless you are bringing your RV's or 5th Wheels -- get your rooms reservations on-- I will list ALL Hotels who are sponsorimg (money and contracts due on Tuesday) the event on Wed or Thurs next week-- Ongoing rate of 3 nights for $199 is still available..

If you are sampling this event -- bring lots of meat-- We'll have a people's choice 50/50 on Saturday 8/28... 12-4pm... but you may set shop and sample/vend on 8/26, and 8/27 on your own as people (ticket to the event is good for F, Sat and many a guest/vendor/team will be arriving on Thursday if not earlier-- Smoke on Wheels - KC Andy-- is bringing the kids and wife from Tuesday on, teaching a class ($150 early bird/$200 after 6/15 limited to 40-50 max) at Real del mar country club on Wed or Thurs (1/2 day) if any interested.. Also getting bombarded with judges requests, please e-mail me if you are interested in judging this one (15 judges already contacted me-- Judges app being worked on- should be up on Monday as I type) 1st come, 1st serve-- and remember - (my gut says Hotels in Rosarito will sell out- by 7/01 (almost 2 months before the event)-- make your reservations asap...

Going to be on TV tomorrow morning Channel 21 in Tijuana, Mexico.. 8:30 am - the equivalent of Baja's Today show, viewership around 1,000,000 - 1st of 5 TV apperances in the show... The next one should be later on the month with Chef Javier Placencia (the self-proclaimed early favorite for GC- Even with Andy Smoke on Wheels coming?, big huevos he has) and another one with Dennis (Porketeers) in mid-late July... Media wise - this will be a huge success, event already has 72 countries televising it... Wish me luck!
